Thomas Leo Scherer is the Program Officer for Economics and Peacebuilding at the U.S. Institute of Peace. His research focuses on the economics of conflict and the micro-dynamics of war, but he also works on the topics of peacekeeping and intervention, global disaster response and gender and conflict. He has a PhD in Politics from Princeton University where he specialized in international relations and formal/quantitative methods. His dissertation, Peace for Keeps, examines how host governments use UN peacekeeping operations not to create peace but rather to stay in power.
